Show 135 > 24.05.10 > In Memory of Joseph Bicego (1921 - 2010)

Tonight's show was dedicated to my grandfather, Joseph Bicego, who passed away yesterday at the age of 89. He was a kind, quiet, selfless man. He was much loved and will be sorely missed. I owe my love of world music to him, as I grew up hearing him play all different kinds. He particularly loved Yiddish, Macedonian, South American and Portuguese music, so they feature heavily tonight. And of course anything with the accordian ... Joe played the accordian for much of his adult life at dances in and around Griffith, before his farmer's hands made it impossible later in life. I will always remember those large, crooked, sun-burnt hands, and marvel at how much work they did.

Dear Nonno, I love you very much and am grateful for all you did for me. I will never forget you. Rest in peace. xx
